Welcome to the Media Center
Ms. Janna Hoekema - Media Specialist
Students at Johnston are using the library to conduct research using the Super3 or Big6 process, practice literacy and, of course, find books to read. Younger students are making fact sheets that include pictures and information stated in their own words. They are finding great art and stories. They are expanding their understanding of curriculum topics by reading nonfiction books.
Students in grades 2-4 may have two books checked out at a time, unless they have a special project. K students will begin book checkout in October and 1st grade students will work up to 2 books as they bring back the first in good condition. Students come to the Media Center each week for a 45 minute class.
We are using all sorts of technology to learn digital projects and for research. Those include iPads, document readers, data projectors, FlipVideo cameras, and laptops in conjunction with content projects. If your business would like to support the acquisition of technology at Johnston, please contact Ms. Hoekema.
