Students at Johnston Elementary are learning to ride a bike - at school! PE teacher Josh Frisby has been teaching students, across multiple lessons, everything they need to know about riding bikes in a variety of situations - starting, stopping, maintenance, road rules and laws, friendly riding, and biking courtesy.

“Learning to ride a bike, and learning to ride around others, is a life-long skill that will help them live a healthy lifestyle,” said Mr. Frisby. “The bike program is a great addition to PE here at Johnston.”

The bikes are part of the Buncombe County Schools Healthful Living program, where PE teachers can reserve them to be used at their individual schools. Additionally, the NCDOT has rewarded Johnston Elementary with a grant allowing them to give each third and fourth-grade student a free helmet upon completion of the program.
