Buncombe County Schools (BCS) employs thousands of extraordinary staff across the district. BCS takes pride in recruiting the best in order to inspire, educate, encourage and elevate students on a daily basis. As a way to honor the hard work and dedication that staff pour into our school community, we are recognizing those who go above and beyond to make BCS the best. This BCS Staff Spotlight recognizes Principal Angie Trantham of Johnston Elementary School (JES).
October is National Principals Month, Mrs. Trantham is in her second year of being a principal at JES. She radiates passion for the school, students and staff.
“I LOVE working with students, teachers and the community at large to support students,” she said. “I believe everyone has potential. It's not my job to define or limit that potential but to help everyone I come in contact with to recognize and achieve their greatest potential.”
Her colleagues describe her as the glue that holds their school family together, noting the countless hours and time she pours into role as school leader.
“Mrs.Trantham is at the heart of JES,” said Assistant Principal Shannon Davis. “She is a petite person with a huge personality and heart for others! She is sweet, funny, energetic, and she is determined to do whatever it takes to make JES the best for each student and staff member!”
“Mrs. Trantham has worked tirelessly to make JES a warm inviting environment for our community,” said Kindergarten teacher Shanna Buckner. “Mrs. Trantham has curated lots of resources for our classrooms and the school in general. She is not afraid to ask anyone for anything that will benefit our Mighty Bears!”
Mrs. Trantham draws inspiration from her entire school community to make sure JES offers students the most engaging and well-rounded experience. For her, JES is more than just a building full of classrooms, textbooks, and chairs. It’s the heartbeat of the community in which it’s nestled.
“Johnston is not a place that can be described with acronyms, test scores or even words; you only have to step through the doors to feel welcomed, encouraged and engaged,” she explained. “The dedicated and knowledgeable staff are stellar, and I am so lucky to work with them. The students are the heart of the building and loved by every teacher, custodian, assistant, nutrition worker or support staff member who works here. I am proud to be the principal of JES.”
