Buncombe County Schools and the Buncombe County Schools Foundation thank Tanger Outlets for continued investment in local students and educators through the TangerKids program, which has supported classrooms and communities nationwide for nearly 30 years.

This year, Tanger Asheville awarded grants to five Buncombe County Schools programs, providing resources that will support student learning, wellness and enrichment across multiple grade levels.
Buncombe County Schools Preschool for Special Services received funding to support implementation of the research-based Second Step curriculum, which promotes kindergarten readiness through engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction.
At Weaverville Elementary School, grant funding will support restoration of the school’s Monarch Butterfly Waystation, which was damaged during Hurricane Helene. The project will allow students and staff to replant essential pollinator plants and rebuild fencing, ensuring the continuation of hands-on environmental education.
Community High School received funding to replenish essential clay materials and expand its pottery and ceramics program. The grant will support the purchase of clay, a pottery wheel and glazes, allowing teachers to further integrate ceramics into the visual arts curriculum. The program provides students with opportunities for creative expression and therapeutic art experiences.

Pisgah Elementary School will use grant funding to enhance its physical education and music programs with updated equipment and resources that promote student engagement, creativity and physical well-being.
Johnston Elementary School received funding to support the launch of a new STEAM Lab, providing hands-on learning experiences designed to foster curiosity and critical thinking among K-4 students. The lab will also create opportunities for family engagement in one of Buncombe County’s most diverse school communities.

“We are deeply grateful to Tanger Outlets for their continued commitment to public education and for recognizing the unique needs of our schools,” said Christy Cheek, executive director of the Buncombe County Schools Foundation. “These grants provide meaningful resources that directly impact students’ learning experiences and well-being.”
Nationwide, Tanger awarded 176 grants this year, investing more than $206,000 in educators and school programs that support student success and strengthen communities.
