The ESL teacher for Johnston Elementary is Veronika Hagewood.  She holds a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

The purpose of the ESL program is to help our students develop their academic English in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Each year students' English language proficiency is tested using the WIDA / ACCESS test. We use these scores to design our curriculum therefore providing instruction based on students' needs. Our goal is for each student to increase their language proficiency at least one level each year in all domains (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
